Frequently Asked Questions:

1) How long does the carpet take to dry?
It depends on the weather, in summer about 4 hours and in winter about 6-8 hours.

2) Why does my carpet smell after cleaning?
The smell of the carpet is due to the carpet being wet but this smell will go when all the moisture has gone. The more you circulate the air the quicker the carpet will dry. A fan will quicken the drying.

3) What about coffee and tea stains, will they come out?
Some food stains can remain because of the vegetable dyes and other chemicals that are used in the process of making the foodstuffs. Have a read of our Stain Guide for on the spot treatment to reduce the risks of staining.

4) Will my carpet shrink?
Carpets may shrink if they become too wet and it also depends on the type of fibre that is used in the backing of the carpet. For flooding and large water spills see our 24 hour emergency service

5) Will the colours run in my carpet?
No, a carpet technician should do a test patch in a non obvious place to see if the colours will run. As a rule the colours should be colour fast during the carpet manufacturing process.

6) Can I get urine smell out of my carpet?
Sometimes. The proper way to treat a urine stain is to lift the carpet, wash the back and front and then dry before cutting out and replacing the underlay.

7) Why is the carpet wrinkled?
Carpet wrinkles because it has stretched and it needs to be cut and relayed. Big Red provides a complete carpet laying service. Please contact us for more details.

8) Why are there dirt marks on the main walkways?
The carpet is marked from the dirt that is caught in the pile. Vacuuming on a regular basis will help this but a regular carpet clean will alleviate this problem.

9) Why is the carpet a different colour in the window area?
Carpet in a sunny area will fade.

10) Will the technician move furniture?
Yes. They will move lounges and small items but nothing electrical unless it is on casters.
